Someone please explain John McCain to me...

John McCain with and without wife.....

Obama's convention: a few months back....

I posted the following article because it's just so funny to me that this man can get away with all the misrepresentations that he does. Even his own campaign is starting to admit he has a bit of a problem with the truth.... This is just the latest..... The following article was written by Lee Ward, and published earlier this month....

McCain Lies Again About Joe the Plumber, Blames Obama
Posted by Lee WardPublished: Oct 17, 08 06:13 PM
Not only did John McCain introduce "Joe the Plumber" to America in this week's Presidential debate, and proceed to lie to America about Obama's tax platform using "Joe the Plumber" as an example -- John McCain is now lying again, telling America that the resulting press attention paid to the guy that John McCain himself shoved into the spotlight is all Barack Obama's fault.
First, the facts...
FACT: John McCain first brought up "Joe the Plumber" during the debate, not Barack Obama.
FACT: During the debate John McCain mentioned "Joe the Plumber" 21 times, fueling a media frenzy to find out more about this guy. When discrepancies turned up, they dug deeper, exposing more information about Joe.
Obama had nothing to do with it, and yet John McCain continues to lie saying he did.
The strange tale of Joe the Plumber unfolded a bit more on the campaign trail Friday when Senator John McCain used a rally here to defend the Ohio man he made a national star of by focusing on him in Wednesday night's presidential debate.
The man, Joe Wurzelbacher, gained fame after he met Senator Barack Obama recently and expressed concerns that Mr. Obama's tax plans would hurt him if he ever became wealthy enough to buy his own plumbing business. Mr. McCain seized on the encounter at the debate to highlight the fact that Mr. Obama's tax plan -- which would cut taxes on 95 percent of Americans -- would raise the taxes on small businesses. The Obama campaign countered that Mr. Wurzelbacher in fact stood to get a bigger cut under their plan.
But under the glare of the ensuing media spotlight, reporters found that Mr. Wurzelbacher did not actually have a plumbing license, and that he actually owed some back taxes. Mr. McCain leapt to his defense here Friday in a rally at Florida International University -- and made another leap by suggesting that the Obama campaign was somehow maligning the plumber whose vote Mr. Obama has sought at a campaign stop in Ohio.
"The response from Senator Obama and his campaign yesterday was to attack Joe," Mr. McCain said. "People are digging through his personal life, and he has TV crews camped out in front of his house. He didn't ask for Senator Obama to come to his house. He wasn't recruited or prompted by our campaign. He just asked a question. And Americans ought to be able to ask Senator Obama tough questions without being smeared and targeted with political attacks."
It's the kind of lies the right wing blogsphere tells on a daily basis, but you'd expect more from someone who wants to be President -- wouldn't you?
Not if it's the desperate, erratic John McCain, who is now seeing his latest effort blowing up in his face, just as the campaign stunt "suspending his campaign" blew up in his face as well.
The press knows John McCain is just flat out lying to the American people on a regular basis (and so is Sarah Palin as a matter of fact) so naturally when John McCain uses a specific person as an example of someone who'd be hurt by Obama's tax plans, the press follows up and fact checks what McCain said.
Well, turns out ol' Joe the Plumber misrepresented himself, and John McCain misrepresented Joe and is wrong again. As a result there have been numerous press reports detailing the misinformation that was revealed by McCain's spotlight on ol' Joe the Plumber.
It must be time to blame Obama!
John McCain has turned into a pathetic figure, someone who lies, then blames others when his lies blow up on the front pages and national TV news programs.
It's bad enough that he's making bad choices, such as using Joe the Plumber as an example without checking for accuracy first, but to blame Obama for the fallout which resulted from John McCain trying to turn Joe the Plumber into an American hero is just plain disgusting.
McCain and Palin have literally thrown away their integrity, and are now lurching from one desperate, pathetic attempt to grab attention to the next.

Is it my imagination, or this the most erratic, poorly run campaign in the land?
And why is everything being blamed on Obama? Someone help me understand because I am completely stumped. This man lied about asking Obama to put off the debate. About the lipstick on the pig thing, about having won numberous awards, and honors from vets, (when a vet challenged him on national TV, he simply kept lying) He lied about Obama wanting to teach Sex Ed to little kids, about Obama being a terrorist, a communist, and now a socialist! His lies never seem to end!
But putting his misrepresentations aside, someone please tell me how a person can parade a pregnant teenager across the American stage and your chances for office not plummet? (Palin)
Please explain to me how you have have no college degree and even think about running for President of the United States (McCain)
How can you graduate at the bottom of your class 295/299 and barely make it out of HS, yet constantly sneer and roll your eyes at your opponent like you are too good to be in the same room with him? (McCain)
How can your wife get away with being addicted to pain killers, and even steal them from her own organization and have the story buried? (Cindy McCain)
And lastly how can you and your running mate lie on a constant and continual basis about any and everything and still have such a damn good shot of getting in the white house? And lastly, what the heck is this mess about REAL Americans and and patriotism. Are we not all Americans? And don't we all love this country-regardless of it's problems? I'm just wondering. and I welcome rebuttals. I think it's obvious I'm voting for Obama, but McCain supporters I welcome you to try to change my mind........

Your header title was

Someone please explain McCain to me

You should ask Zabeth. It baffles me why such a young black woman would be such a vehement conservative.

perhaps she can explain, as she and one other person (Cindy "No Soul" Druggie McCain) will be the only ones voting for him.

We are all ears waiting.

Anon, Let's let people express their own opinion. It's kind of rude to throw someone else's name out there. Plus, I'm sure she has her reasons..

to answer your question sara this sums it up pretty well. it's from tim wise: white privilege

"For those who still can’t grasp the concept of white privilege, or who are constantly looking for some easy-to-understand examples of it, perhaps this list will help.

White privilege is when you can get pregnant at seventeen like Bristol Palin and everyone is quick to insist that your life and that of your family is a personal matter, and that no one has a right to judge you or your parents, because “every family has challenges,” even as black and Latino families with similar “challenges” are regularly typified as irresponsible, pathological and arbiters of social decay.

White privilege is when you can call yourself a “fuckin’ redneck,” like Bristol Palin’s boyfriend does, and talk about how if anyone messes with you, you'll “kick their fuckin' ass,” and talk about how you like to “shoot shit” for fun, and still be viewed as a responsible, all-American boy (and a great son-in-law to be) rather than a thug.

White privilege is when you can attend four different colleges in six years like Sarah Palin did (one of which you basically failed out of, then returned to after making up some coursework at a community college), and no one questions your intelligence or commitment to achievement, whereas a person of color who did this would be viewed as unfit for college, and probably someone who only got in in the first place because of affirmative action.

White privilege is when you can claim that being mayor of a town smaller than most medium-sized colleges, and then Governor of a state with about the same number of people as the lower fifth of the island of Manhattan, makes you ready to potentially be president, and people don’t all piss on themselves with laughter, while being a black U.S. Senator, two-term state Senator, and constitutional law scholar, means you’re “untested.”

White privilege is being able to say that you support the words “under God” in the pledge of allegiance because “if it was good enough for the founding fathers, it’s good enough for me,” and not be immediately disqualified from holding office--since, after all, the pledge was written in the late 1800s and the “under God” part wasn’t added until the 1950s--while believing that reading accused criminals and terrorists their rights (because, ya know, the Constitution, which you used to teach at a prestigious law school requires it), is a dangerous and silly idea only supported by mushy liberals.

White privilege is being able to be a gun enthusiast and not make people immediately scared of you.

White privilege is being able to have a husband who was a member of an extremist political party that wants your state to secede from the Union, and whose motto was “Alaska first,” and no one questions your patriotism or that of your family, while if you're black and your spouse merely fails to come to a 9/11 memorial so she can be home with her kids on the first day of school, people immediately think she’s being disrespectful.

White privilege is being able to make fun of community organizers and the work they do--like, among other things, fight for the right of women to vote, or for civil rights, or the 8-hour workday, or an end to child labor--and people think you’re being pithy and tough, but if you merely question the experience of a small town mayor and 18-month governor with no foreign policy expertise beyond a class she took in college--you’re somehow being mean, or even sexist.

White privilege is being able to convince white women who don’t even agree with you on any substantive issue to vote for you and your running mate anyway, because all of a sudden your presence on the ticket has inspired confidence in these same white women, and made them give your party a “second look.”

White privilege is being able to fire people who didn’t support your political campaigns and not be accused of abusing your power or being a typical politician who engages in favoritism, while being black and merely knowing some folks from the old-line political machines in Chicago means you must be corrupt.

White privilege is being able to attend churches over the years whose pastors say that people who voted for John Kerry or merely criticize George W. Bush are going to hell, and that the U.S. is an explicitly Christian nation and the job of Christians is to bring Christian theological principles into government, and who bring in speakers who say the conflict in the Middle East is God’s punishment on Jews for rejecting Jesus, and everyone can still think you’re just a good church-going Christian, but if you’re black and friends with a black pastor who has noted (as have Colin Powell and the U.S. Department of Defense) that terrorist attacks are often the result of U.S. foreign policy and who talks about the history of racism and its effect on black people, you’re an extremist who probably hates America.

White privilege is not knowing what the Bush Doctrine is when asked by a reporter, and then people get angry at the reporter for asking you such a “trick question,” while being black and merely refusing to give one-word answers to the queries of Bill O’Reilly means you’re dodging the question, or trying to seem overly intellectual and nuanced.

[Editor's Note: Black privilege is being able to say "the N-word" with reckless abandon, telling "white folks are sooo..." jokes on Comic View, and.... and.... uhmmm, that's about it.]

White privilege is being able to claim your experience as a POW has anything at all to do with your fitness for president, while being black and experiencing racism is, as Sarah Palin has referred to it a “light” burden.

And finally, white privilege is the only thing that could possibly allow someone to become president when he has voted with George W. Bush 90 percent of the time, even as unemployment is skyrocketing, people are losing their homes, inflation is rising, and the U.S. is increasingly isolated from world opinion, just because white voters aren’t sure about that whole “change” thing. Ya know, it’s just too vague and ill-defined, unlike, say, four more years of the same, which is very concrete and certain…

White privilege is, in short, the problem."

McCain campaign "winky and blinky" is an embarrassment to this country and is slowly unraveling like anything based on lies.

With nothing left, they are on an all out character assassination of Obama. Sara Palin has done her job as the cheerleader to excite the crowd and McCain. Now they are about to throw her to the sharks.

I think Cindy McCain is a ghost.

I am not going to try and change anyone's mind, just give a few reasons as to why I am a proud conservative. Even though I am black, my primary identity is as a follower of Christ. I could never in good conscience vote for anyone who condones abortion. Good people will differ and have valid reasons for their own opinions, but this is of primacy for me. I am also concerned with Obama's economic policies. I will never claim to very educated in all matters of finance, but what I have heard from him has alot of Socialist overtones. America was founded on personal responsibility, not "spreading the wealth". I don't want to sound imflammatory or anything, but I have never understood the almost total loyalty of the bc to the Democratic party. I believe it was the dems who began the breakdown of the black family back in the 60's with various social programs and welfare. My greatgrandparents and grandparents were educated and proud people who reached high levels of success by the sweat of their own brows even during the horrific prejudices of the early to mid 1900's (In South Carolina no less!) . They never once looked to the government to provide for their own families. Furthermore the democratic party seems to support societal agendas that are antithetic to the teachings of the church. While blacks make up 12% of the total population, as a whole, we claim a belief in God and mainstream Christianity of nearly 87%. The Bible clearly teaches against abortion, homosexuality, adultery, ect....positions that the democratic party usually supports. I do not look to McCain or Obama as a savior in any sense of the word. They are both flawed. Nothing that has ever come out of Washington DC has done anything to help me or my family. Nor do I expect them to. My life, and choices are up to me. I do not even claim to be a republican per se, I would better fall into the category of a Libertarian. Which in essence is "leave me and my money alone, I can take care of myself" Anyone out there who expects government to take care of you will wait for a LONG time. Big government and socialism has never and will never work. There are casulties worldwide that attest to that. That is why America has stood out as a shining beacon and example to the world, our democratic and capitalistic system. The republicans are just as gulity with the passage of that ridiculous "rescue package". Ok, I am beginning to ramble.! LOL! Taylor-sara thanks for a forum where so many interesting and varied topics can be discussed! God bless you girl! Everyone go VOTE!

LaShelle said...

This type of stuff is why I am considering not voting.
Newsflash: All candidates will say anything to win. Any person knows the president only has so much power. Corporations and entrepenuers are the one who help build the economy.
I so tired of this tick for tack. Cindy Mccain is a druggie, but Obama, who has admitted doing drugs is the past is not. Like Cool_splash said most blacks are conservative. Just go to black churches they spew much of the same rhetoric as Conversative Republicans. That's why I left the black church. I am so happy I am a moderate independent with common sense. Mccain and Obama can't change anyone's life. People felt the same way about Bill Clinton and most of his policies are coming back to bite us in the butt. As I remember John Kerry's wife had just as many houses and more money than Cindy Mccain. People blast Sarah Palin for having a speech writer, but no one mention the outrageously cute white boy who writes Obama's speeches. But because she is a democrat it is alright. We need to stop this rich versus poor crap and realize we the american people are the reasons why this country is in a shit hole. We all sit around complain, buy crap, get in debt and want for someone else to rescue us. Neither of these men are Jesus. They both have their faults. Check their records, neither has done anything remotely great. These men just want to be President because it's their life long goal, not because they want to change America. Only the American people can do that. I don't believe in party voting anyway. So, you're telling these two mediocre candidates are the best we have to run the country. So sad!!!!

@ Sky...

I think your points were brilliant! It's really scary to imagine another 4 years of the same old cr@p just because the candidates get the "white" vote.
Hopefully that won't be the main issue.

Taylor-Sara said...

I would agree with much of what you said Nikki7 I am very conservative myself. And my values would probably be considered old fashioned in today'world. Many of the repub. beleifs, I hold myself but the abortion thing (although I don't beleive in abortion) really bothers me. I just don't think anyone should be forced to have an unwanted child. I hate seeing mistreated and unwanted children. And there are a few others things like the lack of ppl of color that bothers me, and their tendency to give what amounts to welfare to the upper class, while leaving everyone else to fend for themselves. I don't think corporations should be getting billions in tax cuts and corporate entitlements while millions are losing their homes. John McCain has 7 houses and 14 cars! He recently put up for auction just one of his houses. And do you know that the cost to BID is 100.000! That's one hundred thousand dollars just for the privaledge of bidding on his house! That's how expensive it is. He sees nothing wrong with that while pretending to be a member of the working class. The only time he really sees the working class, in my opinion is when he needs his limo washed....

Nikki7, I COMPLETELY agree with you. That’s one of the main reasons I am not pro-Obama. Quite frankly I am not pleased with the majority of the democrat’s socialistic tones that they are taking. It is mostly the democrats who are going AGAINST the majority of American people’s wishes. They make state laws that the majority of the people DELIBARETLY vote against (for example: look at what happened in Connecticut). Most of them just care about pushing their own contrary, quite frankly…SILLY agendas as “acceptable” and this is dead wrong. It’s also the majority of the democrats that make it hard for Christian homeschoolers (and homeschooling in general). The republicans at least stick to the original American basics most of the time…not all but mostly.

It’s also the democrats who have tried to pass an international law in the state of Hawaii that would basically take away a parent’s right to tell their child NOT to hang out with certain people and so many other rights. (Anyone who is curious should look it up these international laws that many leftists want ENFORCED in the United States).

However, this whole election thingy has really gotten me on the edge. I know the republicans are not stupid enough to put McCain as their presidential candidate. They would have probably had a better chance if they just stuck with Huckleberry. Lack of money has nothing to do with it. If they REALLY wanted a chance at winning they could’ve found a way to get Huckleberry in the picture. The republicans seem to have been PURPOSELY goofing up since the beginning. I don’t know if I’m the only one who’s noticing this or I’m just crazy but this whole election is rigged in my opinion.

I really wish I could be pro-Obama at this time (seeing that he could very well be the first black president) but it goes against almost ALL of my convictions. Many people just can’t understand but I simply will not be swayed. I cant.

It’s a mess not wanting to vote for ANY of the candidates.

“I believe it was the dems who began the breakdown of the black family back in the 60's with various social programs and welfare.”

I also completely agree with this as well. Up to the 1960’s, if I remember correctly, most African-Americans were pro republican, and black people of this country were actually climbing up the economic, and power ladders. When the surge came with the democratic influence all of a sudden so many African-Americans began depending upon the welfare system…basically government for much of their well-being. This is almost communistic, and doesn’t have a good aftermath no matter how nice and progressive their systems may seem.

Nikki7, what you said is complete utter, horsesh*t. Here's why:

Is it fair for the rich to be taxed very little while the hard-working middle and working class have to pick up the slack by handing over nearly 50% of their income to the government? Nobody likes paying their taxes, for goodness sake! But in order for this country to function you have to pay. Period. Nikki, stop being so selfish, suck it up and pay your fuc*in taxes! Because of the Bush administration look at how f*cked up the economy and middle and working class. Many are being evicted out of their homes, jobs have been lost. You want for more years of Bush again? If so, there is truly something wrong with you.
As for abortion, conservatives are in NO position to say when life begins. (It's funny how these moronic conservatives keep yapping that they're "pro-life" and yet they support the Iraq war of which many innocent Iraqi civilians are being killed by American troops, when searching for the weapons of mass destruction that didn't exist). As far as I'm concerned, if it doesn't have a beating heart, organs and other limbs, it's not a person, it's an embryo. If we're going to talk about "killing" an embryo, we might as well call stepping on a sunflower plant "killing" or ripping rose petals "killing". Give me a break about all this nonsense about "oh I could never vote for someone who condones abortion". Well I could! Obama is giving women CHOICE when it comes to our own bodies. And by the way, you know DAMN well that if men could get pregnant abortion WOULD be legal!
As for religion, I'm an agnostic and damn proud of it. Ever since I knew that the bible is not the word of God and has been misused, misconstrued, misquoted, and abused by religious lunatics like you Nikki, to suit their own purposes, I have felt liberated and have never looked back. Nikki, do you expect me to believe that God wrote a book? Please. The bible means NOTHING when you're trying to discuss it with someone who doesn't believe that's what God said. You are not God nor do you have the link to God so YOU can't make that claim. So stop quoting bulsh*t from the bible as means of logic and reason. I don't hold the bible to any higher standard then the works of Homer or Socrates. The bible is just a pice of literature written by a bunch of men who didn't know what a molecule or a paramecium was. I mean, for goodness sake, the bible said the Sun revolved around the Earth?!!! Do you expect me to believe THAT?! But then again you probably believe in that idiotic theory of Creationism, Nikki7.

I for one, am SICK of conservatives pretending to be holier then thou when they hold hatred for Arabs/Muslims. HELLO?! They called Obama an Arab, a Muslim, and an "anti-Christ"(stupid conservatives) of which he neither. And even if he was Arab or Muslim, what's WRONG with that?
Nikki7, you need to stop spouting hate for those who are not rich, Christian, and pro-choice and realize that Christianity is not all that innocent either. Look at all the atrocities it's caused. Genocide, slavery, discrimination, etc. Please realize and recognize that liberals are not going away, Nikki. We're here to stay. Deal with it and shut up.

I think part of the McCain thing is the fear that something will be taken away from them if others are given greater freedoms and access to more. As if somehow what we have will be diminished if given to others.

For personal beliefs, I think lots of people are conservative in their actions but feel people should be allowed privacy. I feel gay marriage should be legal. First off, I feel everyone should have the right to lose half their possessions if they do anything stupid. For the abortion issue, again, it's none of my business. I'm more in line with the Catholic Church during the time of Aquinas than the churches of today. But it all come down to this: should we really have a say in people's lives? What would have happened if Americans had been given a choice over whether mixed couples should marry? Or if blacks should have the vote? If we should drink out the same drinking fountain? If women should have equal pay? Do we actually want to open up a Pandorra's box on civil liberties?

I am conservative in my PERSONAL life. I do not believe I have the right to tell anyone how to live their lives nor do I some conservative telling me what to do with my life. I am anti abortion for myself but until conservatives ACTUALLY care about the millions of children born into poverty then I'm pro-choice for a person who cannot be a good parent. Most conservatives see Sarah Palin's daughter as a role model to Keisha on the block with no access to birth control is the dreg of society. I have no time for hypocritical conservatives. Instead of displaying caring and compassion they all seem bitter and angry. Why be a Christian to be angry and bitter all the time.

Wow anon@11:30! Touchy much? LOL! Again, I appreciate the forum that Taylor-sara has given us to discuss topics intelligently. I will not abuse that privilege with name calling or abusive language. Thank you for taking the time to respond and I hope to answer any concerns you have.

My family and I are featured on the front page. As you can see, we have 7 children. One, is severely mentally handicapped and autistic. We receive no help from the government for her, nor would I want to. She is our child and our responsibility. I am blessed and grateful to be able to stay home with my babies. My husband and I work hard and budget each month to live within our means so I can continue to nurture our family. Your assertion that folks are being kicked out of their homes is incorrect. We bought our home during the drunken party of free credit! We were approved for ridiculous houses. but we looked at our budget and took out a loan on a fixed rate for a comfortable, but modest 2600 square foot home. WE made the choice that we knew was best for our family. The majority of homes in foreclosure are due to variable interest rates adjusting up. Folks never looked at the worst case possibilities. Before you sign up for a home loan, be sure you can afford it in every possible scenario! If you cannot, don't blame the government for your own mistake. It is all about personal responsibility. And believe me, we pay our taxes and then some! The tax bracket that we are in is pushing 37%. Your assertion that lower to middle income households pay 50% is incorrect. Those in the highest bracket max out between 37-40%. Those making less than 50,000 pay far less comparatively on a percentage. And those in the lowest bracket pay NO income tax. Which is why I support a fair tax. Everyone pays the same percentage of their income. Government has grown far too big for us all.
I don't "yap" about being pro-life. I practice my faith and teach my children our beliefs. I don't force my worldview on anyone, but I base my choices and actions on those beliefs. Again, I know people have various reasons for supporting abortion, but when Barack Obama voted twice against the Infant Born Alive act (which, even vehemently pro-choice NARAL supported) that just seemed out of touch and over the top. He plainly stated that if his daughters made a mistake, he would not want them "punished" with a baby. I am sorry, I could never support such a radical view. But again, it is MY view. Yes, I believe in Creationism, a virgin birth, and a resurrection. I stake my eternity on those beliefs. I am sooooo far from holy it is sad! I KNOW how sinful and depraved I am, which is why I need and love my Savior so much. If you choose not to believe, that is YOUR business. I would not force my worldview down your throat.
I will not "shut up", nor would I ask you to.

Isn't it a blessing that you and I and everyone here has the freedom to discuss our thoughts and differences? GO VOTE!!!

Hey girl! It is the belief that God created the earth and a literal interpretation of the book of Genesis, as opposed to an evolutionary view. Creationism can be broken down into 2 views: Young earth and old earth. Young earth proponents believe that the earth is thousands, rather than billions of years old. They believe that each day of creation was a literal 24 hour day, whereas, old earth looks to geological, archaeological and other findings to support a longer timeline for creation.

As Christians, how are you able to find confidence in voting for a man who has lied so much, even when he knows that he is lying or at least misrepresenting? How do you know he isn't lying just to get your vote, while having no intention of changing Roe v. Wade or making any other changes on the Christian agenda, particularly if he believes staying in power requires him to go back on those promises? I don't feel I can trust John McCain.

To Nikki7: That's you in that picture?! Girl, you are so beautiful! I always look at that picture when I come on the site because it's such a big family, and I want a big family someday.

I can't vote, but if I could, I'd vote for Obama simply because I agree with him overall. That said though:

I'm anti abortion for the most part. I'm only okay with it if the person was raped. Otherwise? Abortion to me means that people can just go around having sex without thought to the consequences because if they get pregnan, they can just kill the baby! That's how I see it, and that's just damn selfish. I use to want to wait until marriage to have sex. That's still an option, but if I do do it before marriage, which is possible, then it will be when I'm financially capable of taking care of a child. It will be when I'll be able to live with myself knowing that I let a man do that to me. Considering the standard that I hold myself to thanks to my upbringing, I don't see me laying up with anyone anytime soon. I'm 18, and I know where I stand, so what's the deal? Do other people just not think of stuff like this?

He wasn't talking about abortion, when he discussed his daughters being "punsihed" with a baby; he was talking about sex education, saying his daughters should have the right to accurate information because teens shouldn't get pregnant or STDs because they don't know how to protect themselves.

With the Infant Born Alive Act, the language used in the Illinois statue would allow lawsuits against doctors for providing comfort care for babies with no chance of survival, such as those born without brains. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/emily-douglas/mccain-repeats-debunked-b_b_135084.html.

But like CW, this isn't my only issue, though it's big. I studied the pre-Roe days when I took Constitutional law. NOT pretty. Before then, though I was pro-choice, I always thought of it being a young girl in trouble with the choice between adoption and abortion. When I read accounts about how many mothers were dying and leaving their families to fend for themselves...I'm the youngest of 6. My mom left an abusive marriage. When I think about anything having happened to her and us getting sent to live back with that man...

As for being kicked out of homes, it depends on the area. I'm in California, foreclosure central. Or, as my best friend from college said, "I never thought I'd be able to afford a home on a teacher's salary, but thanks to foreclosures, my dream has come true!" Home prices doubled from 2001 to 2005. They've fallen a lot, but it's still a bit crazy if you want a decent neighborhood, depending on your definition of decent. Turns out that many homes in the better neighborhood were actually purchased by drug dealers who were using them to grow marijuanna. (I was wondereding how they were paying for those interest only mortgages.) Some of the drive was greed, but part of it was the rents were getting so high you were afraid NOT to buy. I'm in a slightly impoverished (ghetto) area, and they wanted $1300-$1500 a month. Crazy prices!

Abortion seems to be such a touchy subject. That’s understandable because of the lies that we’ve been infiltrated with by majority of the media. I know this might sound mean but please don’t take it that way but I never knew a child was ever a “choice”. Life is never a choice. Even though we make choices in life, being born was never OUR choice. Since we didn’t have a choice in being born, how in the world do we have the natural right to even suggest that a “child” shouldn’t be allowed into the world? And can we even live with our conscience when calling the miracle of conception a “punishment”? That’s reverse education.

I also didn’t know that a so-called “embryo” was solely part of the woman’s body. An “embryo” is a living creature that gets its nutrition from the mother but it is a totally different person. By the way, it also takes TWO too make an “embryo” so quite frankly that embryo is not just the woman’s but exactly half of it belongs to the father

I know I might get fired up about abortion (Believe, me I do. I’m a pro-life activist) but that’s because I feel so strongly against it. I have very close relatives, friends, and associates who have suffered from abortions who to this day regret every last one. The lack of self-esteem that they face now because of it is so much greater than what it would have been had they said no to the abortion knife/needle.

But the particular part the upsets me the most is that so many young women have abortions (too many) because now they think that they have no-other-choice. They feel that their teachers, counselors, adult relatives, and etc might look down on them because they didn’t make the “best” choice, which would be to have an abortion. Thus, they do so. After the abortion they don’t feel any better but even worse. How much of a choice is that?

I feel that anyone who is not sure about abortion should read this book called “Pro Life Answers to Pro Choice Arguments” and then make your decision concerning abortion. You can probably get it at a library. I’ve studied both sides of the abortion plate and have become absolutely sure that all abortion is wrong. I admit I am an “unashamed” pro-life person but I would suggest that people get the proper education from “both sides” before just making a decision. In the end, whatever you want to believe or do for that matter is up to you.

Oo! I would also like to add that abortion (except those after six months of pregnancy) can remain legal (although I wish it wouldn’t) because of the infamous belief that is part of a woman’s choice. The only way to really end abortion is to steer people’s view against abortion. Thus, if people stop wanting them…what would be the need for them? I truly believe that that is the only way to stop it.

i'm anti-abortion as well, but really, who is pro-abortion. at the end of the day however, i KNOW 100% that women who make the decision to abort feel that they have no other choice, and i don't have the right to judge them AT ALL since i have not been in there shoes. therefore, i will never vote to get rid of women's rights, especially when it deals with their bodies. and it is absolutely ridiculous how many men "passionately" feel like they have the right to say what women should do about abortion. if you can't get pregnant, shut it up, you have no say about abolishing roe vs wade or whatever.

anyways, i'm really voting for michelle, i love her and want her to be the first lady. go Michelle 08!!

although i'm catholic, i do not consider religion when considering candidates. america is not a theocracy, it is a secular nation. it really gets old when people mention the bible or God in their political arguments, i think it's insulting to people who do not believe in God, and this is coming from a Roman Catholic btw, i just really believe in respecting other people's rights since i value mine. if you can't back your arguments without adding God to the mix, there's a problem with your argument. this is America, everybody has the right to believe in their own God. no one should place their religious beliefs over anybody elses and i'm only saying this cause too many conservative christians feel like they own America or something. it is ridiculous and sad that someone has to say that they are christian to be considered credible as a candidate. the whole arab thing was embarassing (why didn't that woman comb her hair). anyways, Michelle first lady 08!!!

Some interesting directions, but I don't think anyone has really cleared up the original question...What does John McCain have to offer?

if you can't get pregnant, shut it up, you have no say about abolishing roe vs wade or whatever.

I don't know if I agree with that. They should have a right to not agree as well whether they can't get pregnant. Because at the end of the day the woman can't even get pregnant without the man. Now for these men that like to hit it and leave it that's another story. I worked with a girl who got an abortion and didn't even tell the father. I can't judge her, but to me it seems like America is teaching women not to have any kind of respect for the fathers feelings. I guess it does irk me when I hear of married couples and the woman gets and abbortion and feels because it's her body she can do what the hell she wants. In reality it really isn't hers because that baby is a life of it's own. Everything else a couple has to talk about being making a decision, but all of a sudden it's a woman's body so she can do what the hell she wants?

For this not being a political blog, ya'll get political a lot. You may want to attack Joe the Plumber to divert attention from what Obama said about "spreading the wealth". It is not the messenger, which is not a part of his campaign, but Obama's response that is important. Obama's definition of rich is shrinking. At first, it was $250,000. In an ad two days ago, Obama said that those making less than $200,000 will not see their taxes raised. Biden earlier today said $150,000. Maybe by Nov 5th it'll be down to $42,000. He voted to raise taxes on those making just $42,000 just last year. How can you give a tax cut to those that don't pay taxes? About 40% don't pay payroll taxes. Answer: you don't. He will give a welfare check.

I agree that the lipstick on a pig thing was overblown. Also, McCain never said Obama was a terrorist or communist. Socialist? Yes.

Why is Palin's daughter being pregnant, which is not illegal, bad and Biden's daughter Ashley being arrest a few years back not?

Who says that you have to be Harvard or any other Ivy league graduate to be president?

Cindy isn't running. She isn't in active addiction. I thought dems like to give people second chances. How can a presidential candidate admit to using cocaine in college and not get asked about it by the mainstream media? How long did he use? Did he sell drugs or just use? I'm not saying he did sell him, but just why wasn't it inquired about and researched.

This is a quote from one of my articles: "how can he fight terrorists, if he is "friendly" with Bill Ayres, an unrepentant domestic terrorist. Questions have also arisen about how he can be "post-racial", if his "spiritual advisors" are Rev. Wright or Father Fleiger, two outspoken racists. One could also wonder how can he champion "bipartisanship" when he votes with the democratic leadership about 97% of the time. The only time he can cite that he worked with the republicans was with the nuclear proliferation bill, which helped keep nuclear weapons out of the hands of terrorists. That is not exactly a huge leap to get the GOP to go along with that. It is like getting both sides to agree that murderers should be in jail." I went on to explain his "Nuttiest Radical Association" with ACORN and their role in the financial crisis which the democrats tried to downplay and keep the republicans from putting more regulations on government sponsored enterprises like Fannie and Freddie. ACORN intimidated bank managers to give loans to people who could never be able to pay them back. This not only hurt banks but also those who took the loans and ruined their credits. Obama has consistanly misrepresented his true record. He portrays himself as middle of the road, but his record is one of being most liberal senator of all. Even more than an admitted socialist senator from Vermont, Bernie Sanders.

Obama has consistently tried to hide from his past. We know almost nothing about his days from college. He doesn't want us to talk about Khalidi's relationship to Obama. Khalidi called Israel racist.

As I told CW, you or him are not anymore American as McCain. I believe you are by exercising your freedom of speech and not suppressing those that differ from you. We just have very different views on which direction to take this country.

McCain has over 20 years of experience to counter any lack of formal education. There are some life lessons that you learn from personal experience that you can't learn in a classroom whether it he at a community college or Harvard. He has proven to be right about Fannie/Freddie and the surge. Obama was dead wrong about both.
We have had decades of proof that McCain puts country first and reaching across the aisle and getting things done.

We know very little about Obama. What we do know is very liberal. What little experience Obama has in government it even less than he should have in the amount of time he has been there. He voted "present" 129 times on tough and controversial bills. Not yes or no, but I don't know. You can't vote "present" in the Oval Office. You actually have to say yes or no. Obama was in the US Senate only about a year before starting his campaign for president. We have very little to go on with him.

This is just my initial reaction to the original post. I will get to the comments next.

Anon, I guess McCain has to offer us the same old same old---same minimum wage, same overused lines, same things we've had for the past 8 years.

Or maybe I should rephrase that---WE have offered ourselves the same old same old.

I'm voting for Obama; however, I feel that it is the people who will decide whether or not to bring change about for themselves. Millions of people have been inspired to vote, but will this equate to civic action and taking personal responsibility for their actions? Will it equate to actively caring about the community and having empathy? Will they start placing themselves in other people's positions instead of imposing their standards on people who lack support systems? And making people think before they act instead of thinking others will clean up behind their actions?

To me it seems like people have stopped expanding their horizons, seeing what else was out there, instead steadily narrowing their lives into a small comfort zone which must not be interupted. That's what bothers me about the McCain campaign---it is a withdrawing in instead of a reaching out, playing on our basic fears without offering something better in its place. Part of the reason why I quit my last (predominately white) church was because I saw them stepping back from the world, always with the statement of being in the world and not in it, but it was really isolating itself. When you isolate yourself it comes down to "them and us." Your with us or you're our enemy. It becomes about turning everyone who isn't "us" into a monster. And, just like DBR people in the BC, there seemed to be almost pride in their ignorance. They'd much rather be told something than research and decide for themselves.

The white privilege argument is asinine. That argument sounds like something that Reverend Wright or Father Fleiger might argue. Why is it if you don't agree with Obama you're labeled a racist? It is not about his race. It is about the content of his character and not the color of his skin. It is only the democrats arguing race. Get off the racially divisive rhetoric.

There is a big difference in between legislative and executive experience. Palin has a multi-billion dollar budget with thousands of employees. Alaska maybe small population wise, but very important economically. It has a huge impact in our nation with its oil reserves. Obama has no real executive experience.

I don't get the Miranda warning comment. It has nothing to do with this election.

Gibson was just wrong with the question about the Bush Doctrine. There have been at least four statements that have been called the Bush Doctrine over the past eight years.

Palin wanted to fire the trooper because he tasered his son and threatened their family. Do you want a man like that to wear a badge?

Read above and my articles to know who I think who is to blame for this crisis. Don't be so quick to blame Bush. He does deserve some blame, but the democrats', including Obama, fingerprints are all over it too.

If there is such "white privilege", why has the mainstream media focused more on tearing down the GOP and not Obama and Biden? Anyone paying any attention to the MSN coverage of the election can see that. Almost two-thirds of americans believe that the MSM is in the tank for Obama. Less than 20% think they favor McCain.

I'm not saying there is some that believe in "white privalege", but it is not as big of a deal as you make it out to be.

Nikki7
Thanks for bringing up what I think is important. I have been a follower of this blog for a while. I agree with previous posts that say bc have unfairly put pressure on bw to stay with bm. The same can be said that the bc and democrats put pressure on people staying democrats because of race.

As for the rescue package, I agree I hate that we have to do it, but we couldn't do nothing. Last time we had a crisis this bad was 1929. Presisdent Hoover did nothing to save the banks until it was too late in 1932, and they collapsed. Hoover also raised taxes on corporations to increase federal revenue. The combination threw us into a full depression that lasted 15 years. Now in a similar crisis Obama wants to do the same thing Hoover did.

Miss Issues
You're right. All candidates will flip-flop at least a little to get elected. Obama and McCain are no different. The thing that you have to look at is their record. McCain has been in the public's eye for decades. We know him. We don't know Obama.

Velvet
Good points. Although, I disagree with you on one thing. I think that McCain could be a good president. I just think his campaign has not been able to keep their wheels on, but this was going to be a tough year for the GOP no matter who would've been running. I also wish I could vote for Obama. He is just is way too liberal.
On your abortion comment, amen.

Anon1
I don't know where you got your numbers, but they are way off. The rich pay ~75% of the taxes coming in to the government. About 40% of Americans pay no payroll taxes at all. Looke at who is truly responsible for the financial crisis. It isn't who you think.

Another thing take a biology course sometime. An embryo has a heartbeat within 18-21 days from conception. Brain waves can be detected 6 weeks after conception. As to the question of choice, what about the baby's choice to live? What do you think the baby would say?

I'm personally tired of agnostics and athiests belittling religion and religious believers.

Sandra77
How can you trust Obama when he ducks and dodges his personal and political past. When he said he was the "change" candidate, I didn't know he was talking about his own story and policies.

Mary
The main thing to me about the religion issue is that there is an effort by the secularists to get out of the public square. You can claim a belief in a monkey evolving into a human, but not God creating the world. To the secularists, you need to keep your "free expression" of religion, which the constitution guarantees us, at home. They want to take away our freedom of religious speech.

Personally, I have no idea what McCain, or Obama could offer to this country. I think their both unpredictable. How am I supposed to make an assumption on that?

Right now most people are more concerned with rising gas prices, taxes, and basically the quality of life. Thus, they’re looking for someone who tells the best story on how to fix everything. A president can’t “fix” everything, he can only do so much. This is America, and the only way things are going to change for the better is if we all join hands and MAKE it better. Presidents are leaders but they can only lead those who’ll follow.

I don't think Obama is going to give welfare to people at all. He is trying to give a tax break to the middle class. Welfare and tax breaks are two different things. FWIW Clearly McCain feels he has served his country and is entitled to the office of President and as such has pursued it by any and all means necessary including selling out his much ballyhooed integrity. He clearly feels the election was stolen from him in 2000 - ironically by the same tactics he has resorted to in this attempt. Principles do not matter when something you want is at risk. Based on the choices made and the statements and claims - it would appear that he does not think the public is thinking or paying attention. One on hand as has been traditional since the words read my lips no new taxes was first uttered - he is contending that he will not raise taxes. However, if you read the information put forth i.e. for health care - really read it his plan calls for taxing health care benefits as income, and cutting Medicare benefits. This is a stealth tax increase. Fact is given the deficit the only ways to lower the deficit is 1) with taxes, which are the only form of revenue the government has and 2) reducing expenditures i.e. cuts in services. Having just spent 700 Billion to bail out the financial system that is going to be really hard to do. Every previous administration has said no new taxes and for the first year did not directly raise taxes but found more 'indirect' taxes and in the following year raised taxes. No matter who is in offices taxes are inevitable - they provide revenue. Be realistic. Neither Obama or McCain have experience in the Presidents chair only former presidents can say they have walked in those shoes. Both candidates have ideas that may or may not be agreeable. However based on how the candidates have behaved during the campaign and the voting record on issues of interest and their demonstrated - the question simply is who is better suited for the position. It is a job after all and ability and suitability matters. Neither candidate has strongly articulated in specific details the who, what, where and when on how they are going to deal with situations or circumstances. To a certain extent this is to be expected because at this point in time they may not in fact have sufficient information in hand or be at liberty to discuss the information they have to really formulate a concrete plan with specifics which the public is eager for. The public is looking for answers and leaders who either have answers or have ideas as to how to find the answers and inspires confidence. One candidate has demonstrated calm, maturity, integrity and an even tempered thoughtful approach where as the other has not instilled that feeling of calm and capability.

Sara no offense, but what does this have to do with black women. I have recently started back reading this blog and the topic I see is "Someone please explain John McCain to me". And most recently a post entitled "White women if you don't want black children then don't sleep with black men". I am just baffled as to why you would have these two posts on a BLACK WOMAN interracial dating blog. I am fully aware that you can put anything that you want on your blog, but when come to this blog I expect to see posts dedicated to black women exploring their options, not posts on John McCain and white women. Sara I enjoy this blog(especially you ir stories), but things like this makes me think that maybe, just maybe you are getting away from the topic at hand: Black Women Exploring their dating option with men of all races. If you continue to make posts such as this one then I guess I will have no choice but to stick to Evia's site.

Taylor-Sara said...

Anon, That is certainly your right. I'll be crying into my pillow because you're not here..... But to answer your question. The white women topic was based a bw who had a ww mother and felt she was mistreated. This topic is relevant because the election affects us all. The common denominator is: Issues of concern to bw. and that goes beyond IR dating. BTW, Evia has a fantastic blog, I'm sure you'll be happy over there.....

"Clearly McCain feels he has served his country and is entitled to the office of President"

thank you Clarice for saying this. you are sooo on point!!! I've always felt that McCain thinks he deserves special treatment for having been a soldier. And it really irks me cause so many men have fought for this country and some even paid the ultimate price with their life. those that fought and survived, the overwhelming majority don't ask for anything in return, certainly not special treatment either. McCain on the other hand is on this "i've served my country" trip. urgh!! he is so annoying, i don't know why he had to seek an equally annoying partner (Palin), it's like nails on chalkboard with both of them. and this joe plumber thing is beyond irritating.

i can't wait for this election to be over. i just hope it won't be 4 years of nonsense like bush

Although I am tired of talking about the political race at this point, and just want to see the final results, I think everything posted here has everything to do with bw and the choices they make. Plus I was holding out for Zabeth, whose opposing opinion I respect. Quite frankly, whomever wins office will affect how we conduct ourselves in daily lives, which does impact on your relationships. As for the post on ww and biracial children, I think it is relevant as well, for many reasons. I have definitely seen the adverse affects of that phenomenon in some of my friends who are children of bm and non-bw. I was happy that conversation got some balance, though, with Delishmish pointing out that this is not just isolated to ww, b/c for a second the comments became plain hateful towards ww. I think the anon is just looking for attention...what kind of person dictates to a privately owned message board and announces they're leaving if things dont change? Just go.

Emerging Phoneix, your concern for WW is so touching, I am sure it is appreciated from them (Sarcasm).

Look, there ain't no damn need to say, "It's not just WW who do that". First of all, where are ALL of the mixed kids with Black female parents who have done the same? Second of all, ANYTIME a stressed sista does wrong by her kids, you can bet that the WHOLE DAMN WORLD will condemn that sista for it. I see it all over the damn internet your precious WW flapping their gums about "OMG those Black women are so bad to their kids in public!" What you have engaged in is WW protectionism. So what if the comments became "hateful" towards WW? WHO is concerned about the MANY MORE hateful comments written about us BW all over the internet? I don't see no WW getting upset about that! If this blog is to become a protect WW blog, please let me know so I don't waste my damn time here any more. There ain't NOTHING "Hateful" about what was being said in that thread, it was the TRUTH! WW with half-Black daughters mistreat their half-Black daughters, PERIOD!

Taylor-Sara said...

Anon, you cannot make a blanket statement like that. All ww don't mistreat their black daughters-that's ridiculous! Some of you women are so angry about I don't know what-you seem unable to discern differences. Neither of my white Aunts ever mistreated their daughters. In fact, my cousin devin, who has a ww mom, has her mom wrapped around her finger. Aunt Tina is so crazy about her, she has spoiled her hopelessly. And when Devin was ill in the hospital. she (Aunt Tina) slept next to the bed the entire time so my cousin would know she was near, and be comforted. I don't think it's fair to say All anybody/anything. And I am not trying to protect ww, I am merely speaking from experience....
