I recently started dating a black guy and it is AWESOME. He treats me better than I've ever been treated before. He understands when you take care of a woman, she'll take care of you. The way his skin looks and feels drives me crazy. He's not jealous or possessive, but protective and trusting. The sex is hot. He treats all my friends well, males and females. He is such a gentleman and anticipates my needs. If we're out and he sees I'm getting tired, that man has the car pulled around before I even have to say I'm ready to go. These aren't race-specific attributes. Any man can do these sort of things. And no man is perfect...they're still men! After years of dating all sorts of men- Indian men, Eastern European men, white American men, I have only felt truly worshiped by my black man. I can't get enough of him. The white guys I've been with, on the whole, just seem to take women for granted and forgot the little courtesies that make a women feel cared for and loved. They expect it to be all about them from Day One. Then they don't even call the next day. Your mileage may vary.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3046913066595294996.post-26477546726231562202009-04-11T23:29:00.000-05:002009-04-11T23:29:00.000-05:00It is so sad and disheartening to see some Black w...It is so sad and disheartening to see some Black women thinking that in order to be "Accepted" by whoever it is they have in mind, that they will get there by trashing other Black women as "Ghetto", "loud", "Uneducated", etc.

Let me tell you something ladies, we as Black women are UNDER ATTACK FROM ALL SIDES, and what we need to do is is forget this class, who is being "Ladylike" and "Quiet" mess and UNITE. Why would Sherri make any difference? Plus, I don't understand how you concluded Sherri represented MOST BW? The reality of the situation is that millions of black LADIES aren't being represented. If we're gonna show reality, let's show the whole reality. What about the BW who have degrees, travels, speak different languages fluently, own their homes and businesses? Most BW I know have their stuff together, are single, with NO KIDS (pretty much like Kenya from "Something New", before meeting her man). And what about those who are married to or dating good, committed, monogamous men? It is sad that so many non black people seem to believe that Michelle Obama is an "exception". I admire and look up to her, don't get me wrong, but my friends are smart, educated, classy ladies, and so am I. Black women need to start creating their own movies, create their own magazines etc... Forget these clowns. The damage that they have contributed to society is simply overwhelming. There are no more chances left to give them. If they cannot accept a sweet, well-mannered, charming black woman then obviously their thought process is screwed tight & shut. They're the ones at fault.

I plan to. Expect to see a feature film from me one day. Hopefully not too long away.lol

http://www.throughtheglassmovie.com/

I haven't seen the movie yet, but I seriously want to. I just like the fact that Nollywood movie star Stephanie Okereke went to film school at NYFA graduated and after made her own movie where she cast herself and the lead and love interest. So that proves when you do it yourself you can do what you want.

I've been watching her movies and she's great. Genevieve Nnaji is also a great actress. These are the types of actresses I would love to see in the U. S. as well as actresses like Nadia Buari. That way we rep. all types of black women.

That is exactly what we need; our own female movie makers, our own mags (not essense and ebony) which are both male dominated. But magazines made by bw for bw! We certaninly cannot expect any image rectification from bm since so many of them are the cause of it's demise in the first place. So we need our own network of ppl to come in and form our own image ameilioration.

I've been looking into this as well. Because we seriously need something better than Essense or Ebony. What's even worse are these black hair magazines that have people that aren't even black people in the mags.

I guess the color that rules in Hollywood isn't white, yellow, or brown, it's GREEN.

Well yes it's a business. Supply and demand if we keep demanding it or acting like we demand it they are going to keep making it. BW need to stop taking parts that demean them. We also have to stop watching movies and shows that show us in this light.

Yes Nollywood's women characters can at times annoy me. But you have women filmmakers like Stephanie who are working to make better roles for bw. Also you have actresses like Genny and Steph (yeah they had to take a bunch of roles they didn't care to this point)who are being picky about the roles they are taking.

Seriously though I think bp should check out Nollywood, Kanywood and other African movie industries because we frankly have no reason for not having one by now. Especially look about Nollywood and Gollywood (Ghanian movie industry) Yeah there are some stinkers, but the point is they make those movies on meager budgets and bp in the U. S. are complaining about how hard it is to make a film in the digital filmmaking world. Not only that, but we also need to check out industries like Kollywood (Nepal) Kollywood (Tamil)(I don't know about the newer movies)but many of the old ones were shot on 16mm film and shot on the cheap or course Bollywood and other film industries.

But anyway check search these industries on Youtube.

Sorry this is getting kind of long winded.Welcomehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06873814449216446881noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3046913066595294996.post-7813881402434777822009-03-11T17:07:00.000-05:002009-03-11T17:07:00.000-05:00So, I don't understand your point. What I don't know is any woman like The SS Sherri Shepherd, because only a fool would allow herself to be used like that. She cannot control what her husband does, but she can control her reaction to his actions, and the first thing she should do is DROP HIM, because he does not value her as 1) his wife and partner or 2) a woman...and who knows what kind of diseases he may have exposed her to...clearly he was not "covered" up while he committed his marital infidelities..I bet he is probably jealous of her, and thought he would show her who the man was....

Anyway...SS is in my opinion, not entirely reflective of many BW women in general.

Maybe you should expand your circles Anon....that is said with the best of intentions. Most black women are unmarried with kids.

Most black women put away their standards to have a man, any man in their lives. And when they are in the presence of black women who know their worth, they can't help but pummel them down. These women have no problem invalidating the worth of other black women, because they themselves feel unworthy.

Most black women, like Sherri, are church-bound and are taught to forgive any and everything, even chronic infidelity. And would even mammy the the product of the infidelity so they can feel they are good people.

So, I don't understand your point. Why shouldn't a show like Sherri's be brought to life?
